After being involved in the giant pumpkin growing community for the last 10 years and seeing all the other amazing giant vegetables being grown around the world, I started looking into records being kept for NZ growers.  It turns out we don’t really have anything set up.

I learned from a conversation that a long time ago records used to be collected from various A&P shows etc, and forward to an Australian website, which is something we could still do.  But after thinking about it, I thought New Zealand should have its own record keeping site.

Sure we may not have giant vegetable weigh offs like they do in Europe, and we may not have an official presence at every single A&P show or other events that might have vegetables, but we have this site and it’s a start.  All the vegetables on the site are the largest in NZ, whether they are a giant variety or not, if you think you have the biggest vegetable in NZ, submit it to the site.

The aim is to keep everything fair for everyone and keep things simple, we’ll be making adjustments as we go along and would love your feedback on either the rules, the types of vegetables we have on the site, or anything else. Please get in touch via the contact page.
